Introduction to engineering plastics

What is Engineering plastic

Engineering plastic is a high-performance plastic that can replace metal, has good strength and elasticity, and can withstand temperatures above 100°C.

Engineering plastics have excellent strength and elasticity as well as impact resistance, wear resistance, heat resistance, cold resistance, chemical resistance, and electrical insulation, and are widely used in various fields such as household goods, electrical and electronic products, automobiles, and aircraft structures. Although insulation is one of the basic characteristics of engineering plastics, It can be made conductive or EMI shielding by mixing additives.

With the advancement of technology, plastic materials with properties superior to engineering plastics are being developed one after another. These are also engineering plastics, and are also classified as super engineering plastics (or advanced engineering plastics).
Super-engineering plastics are classified by strength and heat deformation temperature. Most general-purpose plastics undergo heat deformation at around 100°C, but some special engineering plastics can withstand 600°C. In terms of tensile strength, general-purpose plastics are less than 500kg/cm2, especially polyethylene, which is around 130kg/cm2, but some super engineering plastics are over 500kg/cm2.

Applications of Engineering plastics

If you are asking which engineering plastic is the best plastic material, you cannot decide on just one.
We can recommend the most suitable material by considering various factors such as intended use and environment, required properties, shape, and size.
In order to apply plastic materials, various factors such as heat resistance, chemical resistance, dimensional stability, injection resistance, wear resistance, and mass production must be reviewed and an appropriate material selected.
In addition, mass production can be secured only when appropriate mold design and manufacturing are carried out.

Q Chemical Co., Ltd. supplies customers with the optimal materials under the best conditions based on the plastics experience and know-how accumulated over the past 30 years.
In particular, we support our customers' businesses through consulting and distribution of high-performance engineering plastics and super engineering plastics.
